I am Shirlyn Vandana Lata, an ACIAR PASS-CR Masters scholarship recipient at the University of the South Pacific. I am from Fiji. I completed my undergraduate studies (Bachelor of Science and Graduate Certificate in Education (majors: Biology & Chemistry)) and Postgraduate Diploma in Biology at the University of the South Pacific. I’d describe myself as diligent, determined, honest, friendly, confident, and ambitious, I like challenges which in a way helps me to improve and find creative/new ideas to explore solutions.
My research is focussed on determining the distribution and extent of intraspecific genetic diversity of Cocos nucifera. This study is crucial as it will provide useful information for effective management of coconut farming in light of predicted climate change.
