New Pacific Research Seminar Series Begins

A monthly seminar series began last week with a seminar on antibiotic use and livestock systems in Fiji.

The new Pacific Inter-University Research Seminar series will showcase the latest Pacific agricultural research. In 2023 and beyond, it will feature presentations from higher degree researchers at Fiji National University and the University of the South Pacific.

The first of seminar of the series was presented by PASS-CR scholar Shivani Singh, who is completing a Master of Science in Agriculture at Fiji National University.

Since 2021, Shivani has been focused on establishing the first Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) surveillance system program for livestock in Fiji, in collaboration with Public Health.

AMR is one of the top 10 global public health threats facing humanity, according to the World Health Organization, and Shivani shared insights from her recently-submitted Master's thesis in a seminar titled Knowledge of Antibiotic Use and Resistance Among Poultry Farmers in Fiji.

Shivani conducted her research within the ACIAR project Enhancing management of antimicrobial resistance in Fiji, led by CSIRO Australia. Watch the replay below.
