Global Change Research in the Pacific: PASS-CR Scholar’s Insights from the APN Proposal Development Workshop

Ms Radhisha Nath (FNU) and Mrs Aradhana Deesh (USP), PASS-CR scholars, recently participated in the Asia-Pacific Network (APN) 1st Proposal Development Training Workshop (PDTW) for the Pacific region in collaboration with the University of the South Pacific. This four-day workshop, held from 26 to 29 August 2024 at the Central Cuisine Restaurant & Event Center Suva, Fiji, centred on the theme “Global change research in the Pacific.”

The PDTW addressed various topics related to global change, particularly those affecting the Pacific region and its Small Island Developing States. The workshop allowed participants to learn from experienced APN project leaders, both past and present, and fellow researchers with regional expertise. Through presentations, group discussions and practical exercises, Radhisha and Aradhana gained a critical understanding of the complex challenges and opportunities in global change research. They also enhanced their skills in identifying research gaps, developing research questions, designing methodologies, and creating compelling narratives for their proposals.

Working in their respective groups, Radhisha and Aradhana are now focused on developing proposals per APN guidelines and submitting them in November 2024 for funding opportunities.

APN, an intergovernmental network of 22 countries, is working towards an Asia-Pacific region that successfully addresses the challenges of global change and sustainability—further details are available on the APN website: https://www.apn-gcr.org. The participation of PASS-CR scholars in such significant events underscores their key roles in advancing research and contributing to the Pacific region.
