2022 Future Thinker Awardees celebrated in Fiji

PASS-CR scholars met with Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) staff in Fiji today for an award ceremony to celebrate the Future Thinkers for Pacific Climate Resilience 2022.

The Future Thinkers’ s Awards is an ACIAR initiative that was launched earlier this year to give PASS-CR scholars additional capacity building and funding opportunities to mainstream climate change research into their Masters and PhD projects.

Three postgraduate students from The University of the South Pacific and Fiji National University received awards, which will enable them to deepen their research and understanding of how climate change affects food systems in the Pacific, including taro farming, capsicum production and the dairy industry.

Following the award ceremony was a workshop led by ACIAR’s Climate Change Research Program Manager, Veronica Doerr.

In the workshop, scholars explored the challenges and opportunities of integrating climate change methodologies into agricultural research, and of finding integrated system solutions for the Pacific.
